Mapping Assessment on Two Dimensions

Directly from the foreword to Inquiry Mindset Assessment Edition, Ron Ritchhart provides us with an assessment provocation to stir our thinking and help us get interrogative about our practice.

In my work supporting schools in inquiry it is the assessment realm that I have often seen be more teacher controlled than other aspects of the learner experience. The below Mapping on Two Dimensions of Assessment figure helps us reflect, document, and get critical about the purpose and impact of how we assess. Please consider reading the foreword for a detailed outline of how these quadrants can be used with your team, staff, and colleagues to get to know the landscape of assessment across your school.

In the coming months I will be continuing to workshop this figure and helping schools and teachers accelerate change in their assessment practice to help nurture more assessment capable learners and propel learning and growth.
