I am so thankful to share this piece with you, an article I penned for STEM Ed Magazine. I have adored the conversations, sharing, and community that STEM Ed Magazine has been cultivating the past while. Always keen on engaging the learner (whether students or educators), each offering of podcasts and digital/print magazine issues are invigorating for my practice.

In my contribution to Issue 4 I share some thoughts on the ties between STEM and inquiry and unpack some of the skills of student agency that allows learners to feel be confident and prepared to take on new and exciting roles in their learning and in life.

Here is a new to you resource that we have been using with teachers to support their inquiry planning when collaborating with one another and working towards bringing more intentionality to the experience of inquiry with their students.

It is such an amazing gift to see the sketchnotes from Dive into Inquiry and the Inquiry Mindset Series reach educators far and wide. Recently one of our Portuguese partner schools and Rebecca worked on translating some of the resources for their teachers. Here are a few of them for you to use as you like. This new Types of Student Inquiry sketchnote is meant to be just that, an open invitation to the onlooker to reflect and explore. Whether it is used with educators to begin unpacking their own language to what a gradual release of responsibility over learning looks like, sounds like, and feels like, or if it is used with students to being unpacking their own role in agency in our classrooms, this image is a different entry point to the conversation than the original swimming pool sketch.

This is fun and new for me! My "Inquiry Mindset: Cultivating Student Agency" session for the 2022 South by Southwest® Conference has been chosen as a PanelPicker® selection!

This last year was the most challenging of my career. Upon reflecting on these difficulties I have noticed many highlights, many things that worked incredibly well, and some decisions that I made that I want to revisit in the coming year. I’d like to share some of them with you here and call on you to reflect on whether what worked with my students could impact yours.

I am currently sitting in an airport on my way home from an inquiry partnership in Mesa, Arizona and as I wait for this last flight to board so I can get home to my sleeping family, I find myself in a highly reflective space.
